Problem Solving to the Max!

Each week we have been doing 3 problem-solving tasks a week. We have been learning to figure out different maths equations. This is important because you can use maths anywhere to solve problems. I thought this was cool because I got to figure out real-life problems. I did quite a few problems, there were a couple of them that weren't that easy. What sort of maths have you been working on?

The Dividers are Pro Problem Solvers

We have been learning to solve real-life problems using maths in our group. We have been learning about this to show us why maths can be helpful in the real world.

Our teacher also gave us a challenge to see which group could do the most.
I think it was cool because it helped show me how some problems can help with real-life situations.  It was also cool because I got to work with other people I don’t usually work with. It also got me to think outside the square.

What real-life situations do you think some of these problems could help you with?

Angles Take Over!

We have been learning how to measure angles with and without a protractor. It was really fun learning about angles because we got to play lots of different angle games while learning about it. My favourite game was a game where you had to aim a tank turret in the right angles to hit the other tank. Have you played any angle games before?

I think I could have done better with Mrs Mineham because my background for my blog has to much black in it. I think I did really good at hockey because I learnt lots of new hockey skills.

Coded Hundred Square

Coded hundred square.

This is my coded hundred square.

We needed to figure out the what the codes mean and then we stuck them on the hundreds board. We were trying to find out what the codes mean so we could glue them on to the hundreds board. I used the strategy of finding the hundred first because I thought it would be the easiest thing to find because it is the only one with three symbols. I also used the strategy of finding 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and nine because then I would know what all of the symbols mean. Finding the symbols was hard at first but then once I found out what all the codes meant it got easier for me.

I am most proud of my effort because now I know more about telling the time. I would improve on using 24 hour clocks.

Symmetry

The biggest area I improved on was making my own symmetrical shapes. I am most proud of my effort of finding shapes that are asymmetrical and drawing shapes that are symmetrical. I would like to improve on working in a google draw and finding asymmetrical things.
